We are here to build for the long term; Cronos is the best chain to do that, the team said.
As the intersection of gaming and crypto continues to evolve, today’s spotlight is on an innovative project on Cronos that is building a digital ecosystem that’s equal parts competitive, community-driven, and long-term in vision.
Meet Dark Matter Esports (DME) — a multi-gaming community turned Web3 project that’s bringing players together through tournaments, partnerships, and its own native token – $DME. The project was also recently featured on the official Cronos account on X:
We caught up with the founding team to explore the story behind DME, their journey on Cronos, and what lies ahead for this fast-growing Esports x Web3 ecosystem.
Here is a transcript:
1. Can you take us back to the beginning—what inspired the launch of the DME token, and how does it tie into your already established Esports community?
Dark Matter Esports was established early 2024 as a multi-gaming community where anyone can come and have a safe place to game together. I’ve had the vision of making DME a well known brand, and my 4 years in Cronos has inspired me to form our own community token as a way to digitally carry the community in the form of currency.
2. You’ve mentioned there’s no other token like DME in the space—what makes your approach to Esports and token integration stand out from other gaming or betting platforms?
We are the first Esports token (not to be confused with Web3) launched on Cronos. We set ourselves apart from most tokens as we have existed for a year before the crypto was released, compared to most others that launch a token, then try to build a community around it. We offer a way for players to earn $DME via participation in our in-house tournaments, payouts to our competitive teams in leagues, and opportunities to grow within the community.
3. From your experience building DME, what do you think Cronos needs more of to help Web3 gaming and Esports projects like yours thrive?
In all honesty, gaming in general needs more adoption in all chains, not just Cronos. It was very difficult for us to establish any kind of name when we first launched. We were questioned and actually ridiculed by some of the community, but have since gathered support from VVS, Cronos chain, and Wolfswap.

3. How do you envision the DME token powering your Esports economy—what specific use cases are you building for players, fans, and even casual supporters?
In the future I see DME being used on centralized platforms. We will have to comply with regulations, but I would like the token to be used in betting scenarios, similar to gambling apps for sports teams, except we want to use crypto for Esports tournaments. We also currently burn portions of winnings for our teams and any amount we give out to in-house winners.
4. Your slogan says, “Whether you’re a casual gamer, or a competitive player, DME has a home for you.” How do you bring that vision to life in your community and how has the community responded so far?
We have given our “slogan” life by providing and investing in a safe space. In turn, this has motivated many to stay and grow with us as players and people. At the end of the day, we all just want an escape from the harshness of the world – and we are here to provide that through gaming.

5. What made you choose Cronos Chain as the launchpad for DME? Was it a tech, community, or ecosystem-driven decision?
I chose Cronos to build on as I’ve been here for 4 years, and have seen many great projects rise and slowly simmer out. I wanted to provide something unique to the market that has also been proven to be long term. I could have easily launched on Solana and made a bunch of money by dumping. This is not the goal. We are here to slowly build, and Cronos is the best chain for that

7. What’s next for Dark Matter Esports and DME—any key milestones, integrations, or expansions we should be watching for?
The exciting part about us is we can grow in two ways compared to most other tokens. We have plans to obtain sponsorships and continue competing in our Esports leagues, but with the crypto specifically we will be providing staking, implementing burn mechanics, and when we are in the mid level stage of growth, bridging to ETH & SOL
8. Where can people follow your journey, stay updated on tournaments or token news—and how can other projects or partners get in touch with you?
You can stay connected with us by joining both of our discord servers. One is for gaming specifically, where we began, and the other server is for anything $DME related to make community decisions and stay up to date with the token.
